Fairlight And Media Logic Provide IAAF World Championships' Service

German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF will use the occasion of the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics Berlin 2009 to begin broadcasting HDTV content.
Stations ARD HD, ZDF HD and Eins Festival will broadcast the event, which takes place between August 12 to 23, in HD 720p.
ARD and ZDF's Mobile Produktionseinheit (mobile production unit, MPE), which is used for all major sports events as well as other important outside broadcast applications, is serving as the local production centre.
The production company BERTA is handling all of the technical aspects of picture and sound, as well as distribution to other TV stations. ARD and ZDF, under the umbrella of BERTA, are acting as the worldwide host-broadcaster offering HDTV signals.
Berlin-based Media Logic is providing technical services to the broadcasters, including the delivery of production equipment on location and all necessary assistance and support. Picture editing is being handled by 16 Avid Media Composer systems, while two Fairlight Constellation XCS 2-bay consoles are being used for sound to HD picture editing. Media Logic has integrated these consoles, which replace previous Pro Tools systems.
Media Logic Director Robert Trebus said: "The whole setup assures an optimised workflow to handle sound edits efficiently and with full HD compatibility, ready to be broadcasted. In addition, both Fairlight units are connected to the central picture crossbar and are ready to broadcast directly in case of urgent time-critical events."
