BBC TO MOVE NEWS TO TEN O'CLOCK SLOT
BBC Director-General Greg Dyke is expected to announce plans to move the Nine O’clock News to 10.00pm during his MacTaggart lecture.
This announcement comes as ITV takes its battle with the Independent Television Commission to court over the time slot for their 'Nightly News' programme.
The presiding Judge stipulated that the ITV versus ITC hearing must take place before the end of September giving the opposing legal teams just two weeks to fully prepare their cases.
If the court rules in favour of the ITC, then ITV will be forced to move their nightly news from 11.00pm back to its original 10.30pm.
Should Dyke confirm his plans to air the BBC1 news at 10.00pm, he does not at this time have either the government or governor’s approval for the move.
Queries about the BBC current affairs programming may be raised at a follow up question and answers session as Edinburgh on Saturday morning.
‘Panorama’ which may be spread across BBC1 and BBC2 is not expected to be included in the possible scheduling re-shuffle.
Dyke is not expected to address the issue of independent commissioning which leaves indies in limbo over the the replacement structure for the defunct Independent Commissioning Group.
