IMPROVED NEW SCREENS AT IRISH FILM CENTRE

THE IFC Cinemas has officially re-opened its screening theatres following recent substantial improvements.
These improvements have made the IFC Cinemas one of the most comfortable, impressive venues in the country to view films.
The Film Centre has drastically increased the size of both screens. This equates to an increase of approximately 50 per cent in Cinema One when regular widescreen films are showing, and substantially more again when scope films play, as was evident recently when the IFC held a private re-opening for media and industry, with a preview screening of the new version of ‘Shaft’, directed by John Singleton and starring Samuel L. Jackson.
The IFC have also commissioned a 70mm projector, the only one in the island of Ireland, which will enable the IFC to screen 70mm films from October 2000.
This format is rarely used in modern cinema, but is a valid and remarkable art-form in itself.
The entire project was co-funded by the Arts Council, and by the Film Institute of Ireland.
The end result aims to enhance the IFC Cinemas already impressive standing in the Irish film industry.
