SGT Media Manager and Transmission products at ARTE

For several months ARTE (Association Relative à la Télévision Européenne, Association for European Television), the French-German cultural channel, has been on air with SGT’s products, managing its broadcast and media management.
Cultural television without borders, ARTE is simultaneously broadcasted in several languages across Europe.
SGT carried out installation of its products along with IBM and MCI, integrators of the new system. The system is architectured around an IBM SAN for Media Management, two Seachange video servers for broadcast and a technical system for subtitling.
ARTE’s server technology-based system is seen through SGT products, who act as a global interface and a media management center.
All workflow steps are performed by SGT 'Media Management' and 'Transmission' products: traffic interfacing, ingest, identification and indexing, quality control and validation, low-resolution consultation, pre-editing, archiving, media search, automatic restoration, broadcast. Over 400 workstations are equipped with SGT products.
Media Manager provides ARTE with a multi-audio and multi-subtitle management. Media ingest is done separately for audio, video and subtitle components. The system then allows to add easily one or several pre-ingested audio and/or subtitles.
Media Manager’s Browsing module allows users – journalists, directors, editors, programming teams – to visualise low resolution media. The user can then choose audio and subtitle, mostly for low-resolution PAD pre-visualization (subtitles are overlaid on low-resolution video).
SGT products meet perfectly specific requirements of a multi-linguistic channel such as ARTE, providing flexibility both in broadcast and in media management.
