Moscow post production facility opts for SSL console

St. Petersburg-based system integration company and distributor Proline has been awarded the contract to completely modernise the main music and film scoring studio at Mosfilm, Russia’s largest film and television post production facility.
As part of this prestigious project, PROLINE will supply and install a Solid State Logic XL9080K SuperAnalogue console, fully fitted with 80 I/Os, remote patchbay and Film Scoring system. This will replace an SSL 4048G, which is being moved from Studio One to another studio within the complex.
Since installing the first of its two existing SSL 4000 series consoles over a decade ago, Mosfilm has been extremely happy with their performance and was keen to stay with SSL technology for this re-fit.
Andrey Egorov, head of studios at Mosfilm, says he is overwhelmed by the new console’s specifications and operational flexibility.
"The XL9K, with its integral Film Scoring System, is the ideal choice for a studio that is primarily used for music, film scoring and mixing. It’s unique blend of sonic purity and multiformat monitoring and mixing is exactly what is needed, especially at a time when the Russian film market is demanding more channels and multiformat mixing.”
He adds that a SuperAnalogue console is better suited to the facility’s needs because it provides full 5.1 surround architecture as well as the increased bandwidth and resolution needed for DVD-Audio and SACD.
Situated close to Moscow in the Vorobyev Hills, Mosfilm is one of the world’s oldest and largest film facilities. It was originally established in the early 1920s by film producers as a creative collective under the authority of the All-Russia photo-and-film department (later known as Goskino).
The studio’s first full-length feature film, 'Up On The Wings', was directed by Boris Mikhin and was released throughout Russia in 1924. Renamed Mosfilm in 1935, the facility has gone on to produce more than 2500 films, many of which have won awards at both domestic and international film festivals.
Today, Mosfilm is responsible for the majority of the films, television programmes and videos made in Russia. Its facilities, which cover 13000sq. meters, are internationally acclaimed and incorporate every aspect of film and television production - from scripting and shooting through to final editing and distribution.
