IMAGINE PRODUCT LAUNCH FOR IBC 2000

IBC 2000 will see Imagine Products release its DV Log Pro, a new Windows application for cataloguing video from a FireWire camera or deck.
With DV Log Pro, the producer can play video on the computer monitor, control the deck transport functions, type in descriptions, mark timecode, grab and save JPEG thumbnail pictures, output batch files for non-linear editors, prints storyboards and publish HTML pages.
DV Log Pro is the first Windows based logger specifically supporting Apple Computer's Final Cut Pro log format. The software will be used to prepare for the edit, create sharable log files and to feed video archive systems. DV Log Pro is directly compatible with Image Mine's media asset management software.
Dan Montgomery, Imagine Products CEO said: "I am very excited about the prospects for DV Log Pro to become the industry standard for Fire Wire logging. It is an inexpensive, time saving tool to help producers, shooters and editors organize their shots before the edit, share footage, and publish their material. The software should also be attractive to Executive Producer users as an easy way to convert their logs for Web or CD publication that anyone can access."
The software will let users log DV tapes from the camera in the field or after a shoot using a PC with a FireWire card. DV Log Pro batch files can also be used with non-linear editors that are batch digitising with RS-422 control and a component video input. DV Log Pro will export batch files for Avid, Adobe Premier, Media 100, Final Cut Pro, Edit* and Accom/Scitex.
DV Log Pro works on Windows 98SE, ME, NT and 2000 computers equipped with FireWire ports utilizing Microsoft's DV & VCR drivers. While some editing software requires a proprietary FireWire driver (incompatible with Microsoft's), most producers will want to log on a separate, lower cost PC and not tie up the editor making logging decisions.
DV Log Pro grabs a JPEG thumbnail picture at the head of each clip along with the timecode-in. Alternatively, Imagine's scene detection process automates the selection of start/end points and most representative frame grab.
The individual JPEGs can also be saved with user defined file names for use on Web sites or in graphic programs.
HTML files from the log may be exported for CD, email or web sharing. Storyboards with thumbnails can be printed out in three different formats.
