AVID ANNOUNCE NEW MEDIA SOLUTION DIVISION

AVID Technology have announced strategic changes to their organization and product line, forming the Avid Media Solutions (AMS) division.
The changes bring the SOFTIMAGE|DS family into AMS, the product name will now be known as Avid DS.
The re-organization aims to deliver more innovative solutions faster to both traditional consumers such as professional post-production and broadcast and new customers including web designers and professional communicators by allowing them to work more creatively and efficiently in time-sensitive media environments.
AMS provides workgroup-enabling solutions that allow multiple users to create, edit, finish and deliver content simultaneously from anywhere in the world.
Joe Bentivegna, formerly Avid's vice-president of worldwide operations, has been named vice president and general manager of AMS.
Bentivegna said: “Avid|DS fits well within the AMS product family because it is a comprehensive non-linear production system that includes professional non-linear picture and audio editing, as well as compositing, paint, animation, character generation, special effects, image treatment, and project management. Bringing all of our media solutions under one focused group will help us deliver new technologies to the market faster, and better meet the future demands of our customers.”
Avid have also brought their Edgestreme Systems division under the umbrella of Avid Internet Solutions (AIS) division.
The first product, the Edgestreme Cluster, which began shipping in June 2000, has also been renamed the Trilligent Cluster.
Bentivegna said: “The Trilligent Cluster delivers high-bandwidth, offers linear scalability, and reduces system administration and total cost of ownership.”
