BBC AND ONDIGITAL PROVIDE INTERNET ACCESS

THE BBC and ONdigital are to provide licence payers with access to the BBC’s public service Internet services through ONdigital’s new Digital Terrestrial Television service, ONnet.
BBC Online will be a major feature of ONnet, the TV Internet service which was launched recently.
Jonathon Drori, Head of Commissioning BBC ONLINE said: “This ushers in a new age of interactive television and Internet access in the UK. IT will enable more licence payers to enjoy the benefits of new digital technology in a wide range of genres, extending the value the audience derives from BBC programmes and services. It means more news, information, education and overall more enjoyment for UK viewers. It is the BBC’s aim to investigate all viable methods of delivering enhanced, interactive services to the home.”
The BBC’s public service news and weather online services will have a prominent position on the new service. This will give viewers ‘one-click’ access to BBC News headlines and weather from the ONnet news pages.
BBC Online services, including education and sport, will also feature significantly on the new service.
ONnet will enable access to all parts of the BBC’s Internet service, as well as the rest of the Internet.
