Harris release latest addition to its series of TVM precision test instruments

Harris Corporation has announced the release of its VideotekR TVM-840 multi-format SD-SDI video and audio signal analyser, the latest addition to its series of TVM precision test instruments with integral LCD displays.
In addition to the new model, Harris also is introducing several new options and features that will greatly extend the application base for TVM and VTM SeriesT instruments. The new options include MPEG Data Analysis, RGB 4:4:4:4 Dual Link functionality, Multiple Picture Thumbnails, Teletext and the patented VideotekR Alarm and Data Search functionality.
"All of these enhancements to our test and measurement instruments come as a result of extensive feedback from our customers and serve to broaden the appeal of these product lines," said Tim Thorsteinson, President of Harris Broadcast Communication Division's Leitch Business Unit. "We're proud that our organisation is nimble enough to respond and create applications to meet our users' needs. This commitment to providing cutting-edge technology and freedom of choice is what sets us apart."
The TVM-840 is built on the same platform as the previously introduced TVM models - the TVM-950, TVM-900 and TVM-850. Basic functions include waveform monitor, vectorscope, gamut display, audio monitor, picture and timing displays of each SD-SDI input.
The MPEG-2 Data Analysis module with Decoder, available in all TVM and VTM SeriesT models, enables instrument analysis of one MPEG-2 transport stream at a time, providing an on-screen display that shows confirmation of video and audio content.
A display is generated showing important program information like associated audio services, program number, source, channel number, video, audio and language. The MPEG Data module also includes a comprehensive set of alarms ideal for logging and monitoring.
The RGB Dual Link option, available in the TVM-950 and VTM SeriesT instruments, adds support for RGB 4:4:4 and RGB+A 4:4:4:4 and Y CB CR+A 4:4:4:4 dual link standards. This option provides functions unique to dual link formats such as the ability to view the alpha channel as both a waveform and picture display, data analysis of the combined signal structure, and a full suite of video alarms that indicate the link on which a given alarm condition is occurring.
The Multiple Picture Thumbnails feature available in the TVM-950, TVM-850 and the VTM SeriesT, adds immeasurable convenience to these instruments, as it enables picture-presence monitoring via a thumbnail. A picture thumbnail can be placed in proximity to any of the instruments' function displays for any of the available inputs. This function will be of particular value in applications where multiple signals are constantly monitored.
Other new options include the ability to display TeleText level 1 pages and the unique Data Search features. The patented VideotekR Alarm and Data Search feature, now part of the Data Analyser, gathers and displays search results in a user-friendly, intuitive fashion. Users can see lists showing the total number of alarms in a frame, step through alarms at the touch of a button and easily identify data errors by viewing highlighted pixels.
