APTN Library to represent SNTV archive
Associated Press Television News (APTN) Library are to represent the archive of Sports News Television (SNTV), the world’s leading sports news agency, from January 2003.
The expansion will see APTN catalogue and archive SNTV's daily output of six sports bulletins each day, and also represent material dating back to 1996.
The two companies will also produce themed clipreels from SNTV's back catalogue. Bizarre or extreme sports like hubcap throwing, wife-carrying and extreme ironing are expected to feature, as well as more mainstream material such as biographical footage of top sportspeople.
"It's a very good fit with our existing service" said Chris O'Hearn, APTN's Head of Content Development. "We believe that the type of clients who come to APTN for news and entertainment will be interested in SNTV's sport as well."
"SNTV covers a wide range of sports and personalities all over the world and is great at covering both events and the stories behind them - the interviews, training and background items. That's good for an archive because obviously with sport there are great difficulties in licensing events and competition, so the extra material is really useful."
SNTV Business Manager Glen Daly welcomed APTN’s interest in the archive. “SNTV views this as a great opportunity to work with the world’s leading News organisation. We feel confident that the combination of APTN’s profile and our content will have wide appeal.”
APTN and SNTV will set up internal systems to ensure that most material, which cannot be licensed will be removed before it reaches the archive stage and the searchable database at aptnlibrary.com. It is expected that up to two hours of material will be added each week.
