KIT AGREES NEWS DEAL WITH YORKSHIRE TELEVISION
YORKSHIRE Television (YTV) are to produce weekday local news for Kingston Interactive Television (KIT), East Yorkshire’s interactive television service.
YTV’s Director of Broadcasting Mike Best said: “We already have dedicated staff in the area and it seems logical to use our resources for local television news on such a pioneering service as KIT. Our decision was also helped by Hull City Council’s plans to give KIT connection to all households in the city. We are confident that a service which offers viewers specific news about the places where they live and work, available when they want it, will prove a great success and increasingly this is how television programmes will be viewed in the future.”
Journalists from the Calendar East news team, which already produces daily bulletins for the East Coast, Lincolnshire and Norfolk, will be responsible for compiling the material.
Initially, a daily five-minute news programme will be available free on demand to all of KIT’s customers across Hull and East Riding, through the local link information service.
YTV also expects that as the service develops, it will be possible to offer additional material on demand such as longer interviews with newsmakers, or other relevant regional programming.
