MotionFX complete shoot on ‘Highlander: The Source’

MotionFX, specialists in digital film production and postproduction continue their expansion into a unique scene-to-screen digital cinematography operation by completing principle photography on ‘Highlander: The Source’, which utilised no less than four Viper FilmStream cameras to capture an amazing 80TB of image data during its eight week shoot in Lithuania.
This was all the more impressive for MotionFX as their involvement in the project started only three weeks before commencement of principle photography, giving little time for customary pre-production testing and set-up.
“Due to lack of pre-production testing this was a very challenging project for us, with a high risk factor,” said MotionFX Operations Director John O’Quigley. “The fact that production completed the shoot with no major issues is testament not only to the equipment supplied by MotionFX, but to the whole of the production operation.”
Shooting commenced mid-October in Lithuania, just three weeks after production had first contacted MotionFX in the UK asking about a two-camera shoot. By the end of a week’s discussion, the shoot had escalated to a four-camera shoot, with all that implies for support equipment. To enable this production to go ahead MotionFX therefore had to increase their digital cinematography capability substantially, adding more equipment in the form of an additional two Viper cameras, two digital film recorders and a large range of additional support equipment, from DigiPrime lenses to camera sticks.
The shoot finished with a final shooting ratio approaching 70:1, with over 100 hours of captured footage, and a total amount of data nearing 80TB.
