EVS CHOOSE EXABYTE TAPE TECHNOLOGY

EVS Broadcast Equipment, market leader in slow motion controllers used in the broadcasting of live events, have announced their selection of Exabyte’s Mammoth-2™ (M2™) tape technology as part of their Digital Cinema solution.
The Exabyte M2 tape drive will be integrated in their Cinestore™, enabling fast transfer speeds and high storage capacity.
EVS thoroughly evaluated a wide range of competing technologies and selected the Exabyte M2 tape drive. EVS required a tape technology that provided both a high capacity tape cartridge and high transfer speeds.
Jean Francois Nivart, Digital Cinema product Manager at EVS, said: “The Exabyte M2 clearly stands out when it comes to providing high performance and gives us a duplication capacity of approximately 10,000 tape cartridges a week. We feel the M2 is a very reliable product that, as a second-generation solution, benefits from on going development, continuing its evolution and improving on its performance and capabilities.”
Exabyte’s M2 has a native capacity of 60 GB as well as being capable of supporting native transfer rates of 12 MBps. This performance enables EVS’ solution to duplicate and store digitally compressed motion pictures and advertisements, within the Digital Cinema distribution framework more efficiently.
The Exabyte product portfolio includes tape libraries integrating Mammoth Tape™ technology, generating compressed storage capacities of 1TB to 30TB and compressed transfer rates of 108Gb to more than 1TB per hour.
Given this level of scalability, Exabyte say that EVS will have access to the right M2 product to meet its specific needs.
