BBC SIGN UP TRIO OF TECHNICAL PROJECTS
BBC CONSULTING and Projects (CP) division are project managing the building works and technical installation of three multimedia sites in London, Kent and Leeds.
The new facilities in Kent and London are due to go live next year, while the Leeds project is expected be completed by the end of 2002.
In Leeds, work will soon be underway on the relocation of BBC North’s regional television service and BBC Radio Leeds to a new bi-media centre. BBC CP are also managing the development of new local radio premises in Sheffield. The Sheffield development will house a new state of the art station for BBC Radio Sheffield as well as television facilities including editing and a remote studio for BBC Look North.
The London base at Marylebone High Street will be home to the new multi-media centre for BBC London Live 94.9, the new London Live online site and a new, improved television service in the South East will come from a new bi-media centre in Tumbridge Wells, serving viewers in Kent and East Sussex.
The BBC have recently signed technical contracts for these four BBC regional projects. Independent Project Engineering (IPE) have won the contract to supply and install radio studios and central technical areas. This will include the supply of the Calrec X series desk for the radio studios. The contract for installation of television facilities including studios and edit suites was awarded to Dega Broadcast. A Leitch video server system for the London and Kent sites will be provided and installed through Television Systems.
Graham Canning, who is heading the CP project, said: “CP’s experience in both building and technical project management allows us to deliver each site from start to finish, as well as providing detailed technological advice on the systems being installed.
“Although each site is a major project in its own right, you shouldn’t think of them in isolation. They are part of a single overall plan, which allows us to achieve the greatest savings in procurement and design costs for our customers.”
