Tern Television to produce geographical adventure series

Leading Scottish indie, Tern Television, has been commissioned by BBC Controller of Documentaries, Richard Klein, to produce "Great British Journeys", a landmark 8 x 60 mins geographical adventure series for BBC Two presented by television’s favourite geographer, Nick Crane.
The intrepid explorer and map guru tackles the most important geographical adventures ever made across the British Isles, retracing the footsteps of some of the country’s most influential indigenous explorers and asking how they first ‘discovered’ Britain. From Gerald of Wales, undertaking the first natural history journey through his homeland in 1188, to the likes of JB Priestley in 1933, motor-coaching through the industrial Black Country, the series seeks to show how their groundbreaking journeys informed the public of the day and helped shape the country’s early geography. Using records penned at the time, Nick travels on foot, horseback and coracle, through some of the most dramatic landscapes in Europe including the fantastic rolling hills of Wales, Northumberland’s treacherous Cheviot Mountain ranges and the stunning crystal waters surrounding the Hebrides.
Harry Bell, Creative Director, Tern Television, said: “We are building on the huge success of our BBC Two returning series "Map Man" by making a landmark geography series for the channel. This commission firmly cements Tern’s reputation as the industry’s leading independent producer of popular geography programming. The nation has truly taken map guru Nick Crane to their hearts, and his inimitable style and knowledge made him the only choice to take viewers on these unique and exciting journeys.” (CD)
