FILM COUNCIL APPOINT LITERARY SCOUT

THE FILM Council have appointed a literary scout to help production companies seek out and option rights.
The appointment will enable the council to acquire and develop literary sources and match them with appropriate filmmakers.
Susan Swift who has been appointed as the literary scout, will act as a consultant to the council and work closely with Robert Jones, Head of the Council’s main fund for commercially orientated pictures, the Premiere Fund.
Swift previously worked with Robert Jones at his UK production outfit ‘Jonescompany’ .
Jones said: “It is largely a market research role, making sure that we know what is going on. We are certainly not going to be competing in the market place with producers.”
The move is the latest step in the Film Council’s strategy towards developing a strong local film industry and follows their decision last week to plough a portion of their revenue back into production companies.
The Council’s £21 million film funds went live, enabling prospective filmmakers to apply for cash to support their projects.
