Film Council appoint new Head of Diversity

The Film Council have announced the appointment of Marcia Williams as their new Head of Diversity.
Williams will lead a drive to ensure that talent from all sections of society are able to become involved in the UK's film industry. A key part of Williams's job will be to increase participation in filmmaking by people from ethnic minorities.
To encourage greater involvement of all sections of the community in the film industry, Williams's work will focus on engaging with different sections of the community and the wider industry to encourage and deliver a more diverse film workforce across the UK and working to ensure that the Film Council delivers real diversity across all funding programmes and activities.
Williams joins the Film Council from HM Treasury, where she headed the team leading on the development and implementation of the Treasury's diversity strategy. Before that, Williams was Policy Advisor on equalities and diversity issues in the legal profession at the Law Society.
Outlining her role, Williams said: "Film plays a central role in the cultural and economic life of the UK so we have an opportunity to make a real difference. We now need to build on past successes and proactively look at how we will deliver on our strategic commitments to improve diversity. We need to ensure that the talent that exists, especially those in sections of society that many feel have been traditionally overlooked, have access to the opportunities to fully participate, be creative and thrive."
