Hamlet at Video Forum 2006

Traditionally, video test and measurement equipment – like the vectorscope, waveform monitor and colour gamut display – is in a dedicated box, either with a built-in display or a video or VGA output for routing to a convenient monitor.
At Video Forum (London, 7 – 9 February) Hamlet will launch a powerful video test and measurement system running entirely in software: Vidscope-vx.
This is not the first such software-based tool, but it is unique for at least two reasons. First, this is not a lightweight, consumer-oriented package but a comprehensive, professional toolset. The Windows application provides all the video and audio measurement tools you would expect, plus a confidence video monitor. Colour gamut errors are indicated by sparkling highlights on the video display. A safe area generator is included, so the monitor can be used to check graphic locations.
A software quality tool is also a logical development where content is delivered as a file rather than in realtime video. Vidscope-vx can automatically process content, capturing test results for later analysis.
The second reason Vidscope-vx is unique is because it is delivered on, and runs from, a USB memory stick. Plugging it in instantly turns any PC into a fully featured test and measurement system.
Versions are available for DV and HDV, and professional versions handle SDI and HD-SDI, compatible with all PC video capture cards. The package also includes a focus chart, and DV and HDV systems can control a camcorder via Firewire.
