BSKYB ON TRACK FOR FIVE MILLION SUBSCRIBERS
BSKYB have announced they are ahead of schedule on their target to net five million subscribers.
Announcing their results for the quarter ending September 30, 2000, BSkyB have stated they had now achieved 4.95 million direct to home (DTH) sales, with 86 per cent now subscribing to digital services.
Chief Executive of BSkyB Tony Ball (pictured) said: “Reaching our five million target ahead of schedule is a fantastic achievement. We are confident that we are on course to achieve our target of seven million subscribers by the end of 2003. More people switching to digital chose Sky. In the last year we added more than a million DTH subscribers with growth in the last quarter at record levels. And as people switch to Sky digital, our low churn level shows they are staying with us.”
BSkyB also stated: “The decline in ITV’s share of viewing across all UK homes to 27.9 per cent in the period from 30.3 per cent for the comparable period was due in part to its absence from the digital satellite platform.”
