Research guide to Scottish cinema launched
Scottish Screen, in partnership with Edinburgh College of Art, has launched a research guide to Scottish cinema.
Written by Jonathan Murray, ‘That Thinking Feeling: A Researcher’s Guide to Scottish Cinema 1938-2004’ is aimed at students, critics and teachers who wish to explore and better understand Scotland’s film culture, its recurrent themes, central debates and key films and filmmakers.
The book brings together short essay commentaries on over a thousand printed and archival sources spanning seven decades of Scotland’s often-vexed relationship with Scottish cinema.
Commenting on the book, Scottish Screen Archive Curator Janet McBain said: “With Jonathan Murray's impressive compilation of sources for the study of Scottish film we have for the first time an authoritative and concise resource for supporting and encouraging the study of Scotland in film. That Thinking Feeling will be a splendid aid in addressing these requests for advice and information but also an invaluable tool in the armoury of writers and critics of cinema past and present.”
That Thinking Feeling is jointly published by Scottish Screen, the national film agency and Edinburgh College of Art.
