STAR TV LAUNCH TWO NEW ASIAN CHANNELS

STAR TV has announced the mid-January launch of STAR Plus and STAR News on BSkyB’s Digital Platform.
STAR News will be the first India focused 24-hour news channel in the UK. The channel has a track record for unbiased reporting and breaking news from India and the sub-continent in both English and Hindu.
STAR Plus is India’s number one Hindi entertainment channel consisting of the top ten cable and satellite TV programmes in India today, which includes the Hindi remake of ‘Who Wants To be A Millionaire’.
Peter Mukerjea, Chief Executive of STAR’s India Operation, said: “By partnering with BSkyB we are enabling Indian and Asian communities in the UK to enjoy the entertainment and news that their fellow countrymen see everyday back home.”
STAR TV aims to fulfil the entertainment and information needs of over 1.5 million Indian and Asian ethnic people in the UK and to draw substantial ethnic audiences from within BSkyB’s four million subscribers.
James Murdoch, STAR’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said: “STAR’s localised programming continues to enjoy unprecedented viewership and ratings in Asia. The launch further expands STAR TV’s audience outside Asia.”
Outside Asia, STAR TV programming is already seen in France, Germany, Austria, Spain, the US and the Middle East with channels including Channel [V], Phoenix Chinese News and Entertainment Channel, STAR News and STAR Plus.
