WELSH PREMIERE OF BLOOM STREET'S 'ONE OF THE HOLLYWOOD TEN'

BLOOM Street Productions film, 'One Of The Hollywood Ten' (pictured) is to premiere at the International Film Festival of Wales.
During the production of the circa $6 million film Bloom Street, managed by Karl Francis, received substantial grants from the Arts Council of Wales (ACW). In one of the largest ever awards made by the ACW to a single film production Bloom Street received a grant of £28, 560 for script development plus a further £450,000 to enable the company to produce a film based on the script, ‘One of the Hollywood Ten’.
Writer and Director, Karl Francis, said: “The funding from ACW provided the financial bedrock upon which this film could be produced. In simple terms, without the money from the ACW, I would not have been able to go ahead with this project.
“One thing that certainly became evident while working on the project, is the fact that Wales’ creative and technical skills are head and shoulders above those exercised by most other countries.”
ACW’s Lottery Director, Robert Edge, said: “Karl Francis, is well-known both in Wales and the UK for his imaginative and inspiring work. This, however, is an opportunity to support him on a global stage.
“The depth of scriptwriting talent evident within Wales is tremendous. Funding film production costs for this specific film provided ACW with an opportunity to bring one of Wales’ most talented film makers to national attention.”
Set during the McCarthy era of the 1950s the film tells the story of Herbert Biberman (Jeff Goldblum) and his wife Gale Sondergaard (Greta Scacchi), and the making of the culturally and historically significant film, ‘Salt of the Earth’, which the Federal Government of that time tried to destroy.
‘One of the Hollywood Ten’ shot on location in Wales, Spain, and the US is to be shown during the International Film Festival of Wales, which is on November 29 to December 9.
Also to be screened during the festival are the ACW funded 'Beautiful Mistake', 'The Testemony of Taliesin Jones', and the ten shorts made under the Screen Gems scheme.
