Rushes breaks down walls for Lloyds TSB

‘Wall’ is the second installment in the new campaign for Lloyds TSB.
This film relied much more on the rushes 3D department than the previous film, ‘Paths.’
A man is seen walking up to a huge, impenetrable black Perspex wall. The idea being that he is prevented from ‘moving forward’ (i.e switching to a mortgage with Lloyds TSB) until he can pass this wall. As he reaches out his hand to touch the wall, the wall breaks up and he is granted passage to the other side where the Lloyds horse waits to lead him on to a more secure financial future.
Craig Travis, Rushes 3D Animator, said: “We had a similar challenge in this film because the look was all important to Pip and Chris. We had lots of references that the guys had supplied but achieving the desired look was all about experimentation. Pip and Chris were adamant the explosion must look graceful and elegant without looking violent, as it was integral to the overall feel and mood of the film. To this end we went through several versions until we all felt it was right.”
As in the first film, the tricky part for Paul Hannaford, Rushes VFX Artist, was the reflections: “Charlie actually shot the reflections in camera using a mirror, on top of which he shot a reference plate that was shot against black perspex. Our task was to matte the reflection pass off and use the reference as a guide. This film was all about achieving the vision that Pip and Chris had. Rushes achieved that and once again and we had many laughs along the way.”
