MEDIAWAVE AND BBC INTERACTIVE COVER PARLIAMENT

A NEW partnership venture by MediaWave and BBC Interactive, the new media arm of BBC Resources Northern Ireland, will deliver webcasts of the proceedings of the Scottish Parliament.
Mervyn Middleby, Manager of BBC Interactive, said: “BBC Interactive’s role comes in at the user interface for global audiences and the Parliament itself. Our website design, www.scottishparliamentlive.com, will allow viewers to ‘tune in’ with ease to parliamentary proceedings, and incorporates functionality that will allow them to feed in their reaction and opinions. We will be working closely with MediaWave and the Parliament to continue to develop it as a highly focused and interactive communication channel.”
MediaWave will encode audio and video content from the Parliament and stream it on to the internet backbone via a network of 600 servers in nine countries.
Alan Smart, The Parliament’s Head of Broadcasting, said: “With the expertise of these two innovative companies, The Scottish Parliament are confident our parliamentary webcasting service will be amongst the best in the world. Our plans to provide a dedicated multi-channel service, simultaneously webcasting proceedings from three separate parliamentary venues and backed up by supporting text information are ambitious. But, with MediaWave’s and BBC Interactive’s support, we are confident we can deliver and further develop a first rate service.”
