SKILLSET REPRESENT MEDIA INDUSTRY ON LSC

News Image
SKILLSET’S Chief Executive Dinah Caine (pictured) has been appointed to the board of the West London Learning and Skills Council.
This Learning and Skills Council (LSC) covers an area where the majority of the British media industry is based.
The National LSC and 47 local LSCs will be responsible for the funding, planning and quality assurance of further education colleges, school six forms, work-based training for young people and workforce development. From April 2001 they will take over the responsibilities of the Training and Enterprise Council (TEC) network and the Further Education Funding Council. The LSC will have a budget of £6 billion and responsibility for funding around six million learners.
Dinah Caine, Chief Executive of Skillset, said: “Local LSCs are responsible for ensuring the needs of local communities, businesses and individuals are reflected and met through LSC funded provision. Due to a majority of our industry being based under the West London LSC it was vital we were represented on the board. I now look forward to ensuring our industry is fully supported by LSC spending in the West London area.”
A local LSC will, on average, be responsible for annual budgets of £100 million and for funding over 100,000 local learners. To ensure that business needs are at the heart of the LSC arrangements it has been agreed that at least 40 per cent of the members of the LSC boards are people with recent business and commercial experience.
