E4 SELECTS PINNACLE SYSTEMS
PINNACLE Systems, digital solutions specialists, have provided Channel 4’s new digital channel, E4, with a playout system based on a MediaStream700 server.
Following initial use at E4, Channel 4 are to move to a server based system for the playout of commercials, and have ordered two Pinnacle MediaStream 1600 servers.
Kevin Burrows, Manager of Engineering Systems at Channel 4, said: “We evaluated Pinnacle’s MediaStream servers along with other manufacturers’ products, and decided to go with MediaStreams because they offered what we needed in terms of storage, architecture, and scalability.
“Our requirements were specific. We wanted a transmission system that was not only operationally efficient but also had the capability for all non-live programming to be eventually transmitted from the server. This was another key factor in the new architecture.”
Channel 4 plan to install more MediaStreams, with potential progression towards the use of a server farm to support all of Channel 4’s playout needs, programmes and commercials. (CD)
