Scopus supplies Sri Lanka’s first direct-to-home broadcasting platform

Scopus Network Technologies has announced that it has equipped Sri Lanka’s CBNSat with digital broadcast capabilities for its Direct-to-Home services.
The broadcaster, based in Colombo, is utilising Scopus’ digital Headend broadcast platform to deliver quality content distribution to its subscribers throughout Sri Lanka and the Indian Sub-Continent.
CBNSat’s new Headend platform is distributing up to 18 digital video channels with two embedded audio channels per video channel thereby increasing the network’s capabilities for transmitting quality programming like CNN, HBO, Nickelodeon, MTV and Star Sports, for example, to its subscribers.
The CBNSat’s Headend platform features Scopus’ CODICO E-1200 Encoder with TriplePass encoding mechanisms and CODICO IVG-7304 Intelligent Video Gateways in a statistical multiplexing architecture. The system is fully redundant, combines all incoming feeds to generate new Transport Stream for up to 18 channels per transponder, includes a powerful Conditional Access platform, and is monitored, configured and controlled by Scopus’ NMS Network Management System. The platform is fully capable of transrating and grooming for digital turn around applications.
Muhunthan Canagey, CBNSat’s Managing Director, said: “Selecting Scopus’ digital technologies represents our commitment to investing in the best equipment to meet the current and emerging needs of our subscribers. CBNSat’s new infrastructure enables us to provide flexible services – which reflects how our industry is moving.”
