FilmLight recognised With Queen’s Award

FilmLight Ltd., a leading provider of digital filmmaking technology, has been recognised with The Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2005.
The award relates to the Northlight motion picture film scanner, which changed the way in which the film industry managed the post-production process and lead to the widespread adoption of digital techniques. Brought to market in 2002, over 35 Northlight scanners have been purchased by leading studios worldwide and used to scan hundreds of major motion pictures including 'Sahara', 'Cold Mountain', 'Lemony Snickets' a Series of Unfortunate Events' and 'Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban'.
Film scanning brings full quality film images into computer systems for the addition of digital visual effects, and colour grading prior to returning to film.
Companies such as FilmLight receive the Innovation Award based on business performance, commercial success and outstanding innovation and development sustained over a period longer than two years. The in-depth evaluation process assessed FilmLight on the invention, design, production, marketing and after sales support of the product, as well as benchmarking the company’s relations with its staff, suppliers and the environment.
“FilmLight is delighted and proud to have earned such a high level of recognition for the Northlight and for our business success,” commented Peter Stothart, Commercial Director, FilmLight. “This award has a deep validation process which means a lot to us. We are a young and rapidly expanding business, and the Northlight was our first product. Our new products are achieving a similar level of success, and we feel confident that we can continue to carry the banner for British high technology products in the film industry.”
