NEW WORKS TO SCREEN AT IRISH REELS FESTIVAL
A WONDERFUL collection of refreshing and exciting new works in Irish Cinema will be shown at the Seattle Irish Reels Film & Video Festival which takes place on March 7 to the 10.
Screenings will take place at the Harvard Exit on Capitol Hill, Seattle’s Art Museum and 911 Media Arts Centre, both located in Seattle.
Irish Reels, a forum for features, shorts, and documentaries by independent Irish filmmakers, kicks off with an opening night reception which will feature the Northwest premiere of ‘When Brendan Met Trudy’, a high spirited romantic comedy written by Roddy Doyle and directed by Kieron J Walsh.
On March 8 at 911 Media Arts Centre there will be a showcase of some of the latest new documentaries, including ‘Ahakista’ a documentary on the tragic 1985 Air India crash off the South West coast of Ireland, ‘The Nook’ and ‘To Russia with Love’.
The festival will move to the Seattle Art Museum on March 9, and there will be a screening of Irish playwright and screenwriter Conor McPherson’s directorial debut, ‘Saltwater’ and ‘Flick’, Fintan Connolly’s impressive first feature.
On March 10 there will be a double screening of ‘Nora’ and ‘James Joyce: The Trials of Ulysses’. The closing night screening will be Dudi Appleton’s ‘The Most Fertile Man in Ireland’.
Invited guests include Roddy Doyle, Kieron J Walsh, Conor McPherson, Fintan Connolly, David Murray who is an actor from ‘Flick’ and Dudi Appleton.
Irish Reels Film & Video Festival aims to bring one aspect of the current Irish arts renaissance to Seattle, where audiences have enjoyed the new outpouring of Irish creativity on the stage and page, and now deserve a forum for that same creativity on celluloid.
The Festival also aims to showcase films which counteract the distorted image of Ireland so often projected by the popular media through clichés and sensationalism, and it also focuses on the Irish filmmakers working outside the formulas of Hollywood, staying true to their art and culture and producing films both in Ireland and abroad.
