GO AHEAD GIVEN TO CREATE BBC TECHNOLOGY

THE BBC are to set up a new limited liability company, BBC Technology Limited, following approval from the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, to create the new wholly owned subsidiary.
BBC Technology will be a commercial subsidiary of the BBC, wholly independent of the BBC and will not be subsidised by the licence fee.
BBC Technology will offer access to engineering skills across a whole range of broadcast and internet related technologies. Digital technology is opening up powerful and exciting new opportunities for companies to communicate with their customers and their staff. To do this successfully businesses need support in managing, creating and distributing media - expertise which lies at the heart of BBC Technology.
The company will have six specialist business categories:
Internet Services, providing website hosting, narrowband and broadband streaming internet delivery; Consulting & Projects, creating media technology solutions; Broadcast Network Control Systems (BNCS), offering simple touch screen controls to complex broadcasting operations; Communications, providing switching services and satellite links; Media Technology Services, offering media rich IT solutions and intranet services and Kingswood Warren Ventures which has access to IPR from the source of many of the world’s most advanced broadcast technology developments.
The BBC announced their intention to form BBC Technology in July 2000 after being encouraged by the British government to find ways of making their highly regarded assets work harder to supplement their public funding. BBC Technology will begin trading as soon as the legal process of incorporation is completed. (CD)
