Film Lab North secures £400k investment

Granada’s new £400,000 Film Lab North facility at 96 Kirkstall Road, Leeds, was officially opened by actor David Jason on April 27 2005.
This significant regional investment highlights the ITV Group’s continuing commitment to tv and film production in the North.
Equipped with a Photomec dual gauge film negative processor, and situated adjacent to The Finishing School, Granada’s Spirit Telecine operation, Film Lab North is the only facility outside London to provide both super 16 and 35mm development at a single location.
“Having both film processing (Film Lab North) and telecine transfer (The Finishing School) facilities under the same roof enables us to offer a much more cohesive service to our extensive client base”, said Lance Tattersall, Head of Post Production for Granada Resources North.
“With our ProVision facility providing location equipment hire in the same building, we now have a business combination unique in the UK, offering the full range of location filming services across Television, Feature Films, Commercials and Corporate Production”, he added.
Film Lab North have recently completed their first feature film project, Like Minds, a £5m Anglo-Australian psychological thriller, produced by Gunpowder Films, starring Toni Collette (Heavenly Creatures, Muriel’s Wedding).
Director of Photography for Like Minds, Nigel Bluck, who was also 2nd Unit DOP on Lord of The Rings, said: “The production was shooting in and around Leeds and we were delighted to discover Film Lab North could offer us a complete local rushes process and transfer service meaning we didn’t have to go to London.
“Film Lab North provided us with technically perfect rushes, very consistent dailies and great client relations – what more could we have asked for?”
