BBC SWEEPS THE BOARD AT JOURNALISM AWARDS

BBC News and Current Affairs programmes have won 10 awards at the 2001 Royal Television Society Journalism awards.
Tony Hall, Director of BBC News, said: "Winning so many awards was an outstanding achievement for BBC News. I’m particularly proud that Current Affairs did so well. Panorama: ‘Who Bombed Omagh?’ and Peter Taylor’s trilogy demonstrate first class investigative journalism and the BBC’s commitment to telling the Northern Ireland Story.
"I’m also delighted to see BBC News 24 continuing to pick up awards for our live coverage of events around the world and for Tim Sebastian’s hard-hitting interviews, and pleased that our strength in foreign reporting both by Correspondent and on News bulletins has been recognised."
BBC One’s current affairs flagship programme Panorama won three awards for ‘Who Bombed Omagh?’ - Programme of the Year, Current Affairs Home Award, and the Television Journalist of the Year Award for John Ware.
BBC Two’s Correspondent won the Current Affairs International Award for ‘License to Kill’, which highlighted the plight of women in Pakistan. Peter Taylor, maker of the acclaimed ‘Provos’, ‘Loyalists’ and ‘Brits’ triology won the Judges’ Award.
BBC News 24’s live coverage of the Belgrade revolution won the News Event Award, and Tim Sebastian won the Interviewer of the Year Award for the second year running for BBC News 24’s Hard Talk.
The BBC Nine O’Clock News won the International News Award for coverage of the farm invasions in Zimbabwe.
BBC Northern Ireland’s ‘Spotlight’ won the Regional Current Affairs Award for ‘Life and Death of an IRA Quartermaster’, and BBC East Midlands reporter Nicola Pearson won the Young Journalist of the Year Award. (GB)
