FRANCKE TO STEP DOWN AFTER FIFTH FESTIVAL
LIZZIE Francke, Artistic Director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF), is to step down after this year's Festival in August - her fifth as Artistic Director.
Francke said: "The last four years have been truly extraordinary. I have had the greatest satisfaction bringing some of the most exciting films and filmmakers of the last half decade to Edinburgh audiences while I have been lucky enough to work with the most fantastic Festival team to ensure that the EIFF is a world class event. I have decided it is now time for me to move on and look for a new challenge, while I believe the Festival can only thrive further with someone new at the artistic helm. Meanwhile I am working to ensure that 2001's festival is the most ambitious yet."
John McCormick, Chairman of the Festival said: "The Board are sorry to see Lizzie go. Lizzie has given the Festival the creative energy and edge which keeps it special, underlining its position as the UK's premier film festival and one of continued international standing. I am sure her last Festival this year will be the best ever. I am delighted that management continuity will be provided by Joint Chief Executive, Managing Director, Ginnie Atkinson. This partnership, unique in the arts world, has been of great benefit to the Festival."
The post of Artistic Director for the EIFF is expected to be advertised later this month. (CD)
