EIFF ANNOUNCES 12-DAY FESTIVAL FOR 2002

THE EDINBURGH International Film Festival is to become a 12-day event in 2002, changing from 15 days, with the 56th Edinburgh International Film Festival taking place from Wednesday 14 to Sunday 25 of August 2002.
This change brings Edinburgh into line with the other major international film festivals: Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto and Sundance.
This move will also enable the organisation to devote resources to creating other events throughout the year.
In his first year as Artistic Director, Shane Danielsen aims to ensure that audiences will continue to enjoy the extraordinary cinematic experiences for which the Edinburgh International Film Festival is renowned. Danielsen said: "A shorter festival can and will be a sweeter festival. All of our current sections will be retained, and our programming will continue to reflect the eclectic variety of work that’s out there. It’s simply about offering greater choice within a more manageable framework."
Taking place in the heart of August, the Edinburgh International Film Festival is a vital part of the largest arts event in the world – including the International Festival, the Fringe Festival, the Book Festival and the Jazz Festival - and is the premiere film event in the UK.
