BBC LAUNCH £253M SPRING & SUMMER SCHEDULE
THE BBC have launched a £253 million spring programme schedule that will see top names from sport and drama joining forces to give viewers a better selection of programmes this year.
New programmes will involve familiar faces such as Steve McFadden, in his first role outside ‘Eastenders’ in a decade, Ewan McGregor and Ian Wright who will be making his debut on the channel on the programme ‘Friends Like These’.
Ground breaking documentaries such as ‘Son of God’ (pictured) will also be screened. This scientific documentary tries to discover what Jesus Christ may have looked like by using the latest technology and historical research with computer graphics to reconstruct the main events in Jesus’ life.
Lorraine Heggessey, Controller of BBC One, said: “‘Son of God’ is one of the most exciting projects with which to launch the spring summer season. In some ways, it is the epitome of my new BBC One – it is modern in its approach and is not afraid to challenge some cast-in-stone beliefs.
“That idea of taking risks is one that is at the root of what I think BBC One should be about. I’d rather take a leap of faith than be safe and predictable. I want to ambush our viewers’ imagination – to surprise and delight them.”
This spring and summer will see 20 per cent more drama on BBC One as 14 brand new drama programmes will be screened.
Comedy continues to feature strongly in the agenda, as does the BBC’s factual range of documentaries. (AMcE)
