BBC TWO ANNOUNCE £88M SPRING SCHEDULE

BBC TWO have announced the new list of spring and summer programmes to hit our screens this year.
The £88 million package includes gardening and leisure programmes, new drama from award winning writer Stephen Poliakoff and a revelatory science series casting new light on the destruction of ancient civilisations.
Jane Root, Controller of BBC Two, said: “BBC Two is currently on a four-year high, proving that our ambition to produce big ideas and tell big stories, but with a different twist, is working. This spring and summer we’re giving audiences more of what they want and what we’re best at – good quality programmes that don’t talk down to viewers, but are rewarding, pleasurable and fun.”
In May the prime event of the gardening year, the RHS Chelsea Show will be returning to the BBC. It will be presented by the BBC’s family of gardening experts: Alan Titchmarsh, Diarmuid Gavin, Charlie Dimmock and Chris Bradshaw.
New drama will feature strongly in the scheduling, with Stephen Poliakoff’s ‘Perfect Strangers’ and Tony Basgallop’s ‘Residents’. The comedy highlight of the spring and summer season is the Emmy award-winning US series ‘Malcolm In The Middle’ which is the story of an average American family, four squabbling kids and two long suffering parents who are just trying to hold on ‘until the last one turns 18’, which is seen through the eyes of Malcolm, a ‘normal’ boy who is content skateboarding, fighting with his brothers and avoiding the school bully.
Factual programme listings include ‘Ancient Apocalypse’, ‘Endgame in Ireland’ –a definitive history of the peace process and a range of films promoting BBC Two’s Islam Season.
For gourmet lovers ‘Masterchef’ returns with a new look and new face, Gary Rhodes. (AMcE)
