Cameras set to roll around the nation as 'CobraVision' launches

For the first time in British television advertising history, a competition is being launched giving members of the British public the opportunity to have their own short film shown on national television.
On January 31 2005 Cobra Beer is launching ‘CobraVision’, a ground-breaking competition giving budding film-makers the chance to have their short films showcased during the Cobra sponsorship of ITV2 and ITV3’s broadcast of blockbuster movies.
Winning entries will be aired on national television and invited to the CobraVision Awards, where the best of the best will be awarded prizes including cash prizes, trips to India and a year’s supply of Cobra Beer.
Karan Bilimoria, Founder and Chief Executive of Cobra Beer, said: “CobraVision is the first of its kind in broadcast, media or advertising history, and we are delighted to be working with ITV. At Cobra we encourage inspired thinking. We know everyone has a movie in them and these days it is so easy to make a film - anyone with a camcorder can make a film and with the free editing software packages available today, it is possible to make something very sophisticated. We therefore decided to give the five second spots before and after each commercial break to budding film-makers with the desire to get their work shown on national television.”
Films can be talking socks, dancing stickmen, stop motion, computer graphics, black and white film, animation, surrealism – entrants can be as experimental or as structured as they like. It’s open to anyone and everyone, no matter what their experience. Cobra hopes everyone will be inspired to have a go.
Bilimoria added: “CobraVision provides a contemporary and innovative platform for creative expression, and Cobra is delighted to be supporting and encouraging creativity and filmmaking in the UK.”
Entrants will be asked to enter 10 x 5 second films, based on a single theme, which will be shown during the Cobra sponsored idents on ITV2 and ITV3.
