ITN USE GEEVS SERVERS FOR NEWS DISPLAY

ITN, one of the UK’s leading commercial television news suppliers, have chosen the GeeVS Broadcast Video Server to fill an unusual new requirement for media capture and format conversion.
The remit from ITN called for a system capable of feeding current news stories to a large screen display at London’s Victoria Station. In order to accomplish this ITN needed to capture SDI 625 broadcast format source material, process these stories, and convert them into Quicktime format. Gee Broadcast supplied a system that used the GeeVS Server to capture the stories that are then reviewed and trimmed in GeeVS before being saved to an output folder. Files arriving in this folder are automatically compressed and converted to Quicktime format for automatic transmission on to the Victoria Station site via a leased line.
Seeking an operationally simple system requiring a minimum of operator intervention, ITN selected the GeeVS Server due to the server's standard capture and clip processing functions. Gee Broadcast were able to provide a customised interface and the automated functionality that was required.
ITN said that they had chosen the GeeVS Server because Gee Broadcast were able to deliver a solution tailored to their specific needs and provide the additional advice, support and training, within the set budget and time constraints.
With headquarters in London, ITN provides network news programmes and news services to ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, GMTV, and Reuters. (SP)
