Odeon cinemas order DTS-CSS

Following extensive trials with participating cinemas throughout the country in the last 12 months, Odeon Cinemas have installed nine DTS-CSS captioning and audio description systems and confirmed an order for a further 10.
During the trials, in which 16 cinemas promoted DTS-CSS captioned and audio-described screenings, more films were presented with captions than were released in the past two years using the hugely more expensive, conventional laser etching technique. Participating cinemas reported bottom line results as well as considerable community goodwill. A total of 22 captioned films were shown including, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone', 'Scooby-Doo', 'Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring', 'Austin Powers in Goldmember' 'About A Boy' and 'Men in Black II'.
Paul Schofield, Technical Manager at Odeon Cinemas, underlines the positive public and industry reaction to DTS CSS: "Following the successful launch of nine DTS CSS systems, including Odeon Cinemas in London's Leicester Square and West End, Uxbridge and Guildford, the company has confirmed an order for a further 10 systems, due to go live during the first quarter of 2003, bringing to 19 the total number of Odeon Cinemas able to offer DTS CSS screenings.
