SALMON ANNOUNCES NEW EDITORIAL TRIO

PETER Salmon, Director of Sport at the BBC, has announced the appointment of three new editorial heads to the new BBC Sports structure.
The appointments are Dave Gordon, Head of Major Events; Barbara Slater, Head of General Sports; and Pat Younge, Head of Programmes and Planning. Reporting directly to Peter Salmon, the new post holders join the existing three Editorial Heads, Niall Sloane, Head of Football and Boxing; Gordon Turnball, Head of Radio Sport; and Andrew Thompson, Head of New Media, Sports News and Development.
Salmon said: “I am delighted to have the new Editors in post. This will enable BBC Sport to harness their strengths across all sports and all media, to ensure that we continue to be the nation’s sports broadcasters.”
Gordon is currently Executive Editor of Television Sport. He has worked in BBC Sport for 22 years, and under Gordon’s editorial guidance BBC Sport have won many awards, including for the Sydney Olympics at BAFTA, the IOC Rings, and three Royal Television Society Awards. He has a wealth of experience in sports broadcasting, and is responsible for an impressive list of major events including the Olympics, Wimbledon and the Commonwealth Games. As BBC Head of Major Events, Gordon will play a leading role across a range of activities, and will co-ordinate the Olympics, Paralympics, Commonwealth Games and all BBC’s athletics output.
Slater is currently Executive Producer of Golf. She will have responsibility for taking the editorial and managerial lead for BBC’s large portfolio of sports. Her team of Sports Editors will lead the development and delivery of these sports, with the aim of bringing technical and editorial innovation to each.
Younge joins the BBC from Channel 4, where he is the Commissioning Editor of Multicultural Programmes. As Head of Programmes and Planning, Younge will be the editorial and managerial lead for Grandstand, and will drive the forward planning of all their TV output, working closely with the channels as well as the staff and talent management team.
