MAYOR SUPPORTS AFRICA AT THE PICTURES FILM FESTIVAL

THE MAYOR of London, Ken Livingstone, is hosting a reception on June 19 to support the Africa at the Pictures Film Festival.
The fifth Africa at the Pictures Film Festival a celebration of African cinema will be held at Hox from June 20 to the 24.
Guests attending the reception include representatives from the African diplomatic corps and leading African filmmakers.
Livingstone has arranged the reception to demonstrate his backing for the film industry and to ensure the cultural diversity of the capital is recognised.
Africa at the Pictures exists to promote appreciation of African cinema in the UK. A programme of screenings at the Lux Cinema, Hoxton includes retrospectives of Sembene Ousmane and the late Djibril Diop Mambety’s work recognised as the two most influential African filmmakers. During the festival audiences are given rare opportunities to question directors at the screenings. (CD)
