Namibian Broadcasting Corporation goes digital with On-Air

On-Air Systems, leading developer of broadcast automation solutions, has announced that the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), Namibia’s national broadcasting company, has purchased an On-Air Central automated playout system with full redundancy.
NBC will use the new system to automate and update the entire ingest to transmission process in its broadcasting centre. On-Air Central will be integrated with other third party digital equipment for programme editing and media sharing.
NBC broadcasts a wide range of programmes 24 hours a day to audiences nationwide. On-Air Central will enable them to realise several benefits, including lower operational overheads, improved reliability and optimised workflow.
“On-Air Central is a very versatile system and because it uses PC-based technology, it provides excellent value for money,” said Jan Engelbrecht, NBC. “On-Air Central will give us the power we need to manage our busy broadcasting schedules with ease, and its open architecture means we can integrate it with other broadcasting equipment without worrying about compatibility.”
NBC’s new broadcast automation system comprises a suite of software modules that together form a completely integrated end-to-end automated playout process. NBC’s modules include: On-Air Studio with full redundancy for playout management; On-Air Capture for automated programme capture; On-Air TxCG for the creation and integration of multi-layered graphics; On-Air CueManager for tracking media files; On-Air Logger for live programme monitoring; On-Air Scanner for automatic validation of captured files; and On-Air Transcoder for automated file format transcoding and mirroring.
Technical specification and systems integration for the new digital broadcasting centre will be undertaken by Spescom Systems, On-Air Systems’ reseller for Africa.
