NIFTC launch new funding schemes
The Northern Ireland Film Television Commission (NIFTC) has launched two new funds aimed at promoting cinema production and interaction in the province.
Around £30,000 has been allocated to the Cinema Access Programme Equipment Fund which aims to maximise access to cinemas for individuals with sensory impairment.
The new Fund will aid the installation of captioning and audio-description equipment in approximately 10% of all cinemas in Northern Ireland in the near future with more to follow.
A similar fund has already been established in England and the NIFTC have been working closely with the UK Film Council to establish the programme here.
Meanwhile, the NIFTC unveiled plans for a new fund which will help the development of film and television production services and skills in the province.
The Facilities Development Bursary Fund is designed to assist Northern Ireland facilities providers with financial support to undertake training in, or development of, new products and services.
This new fund, believed to be the only of its kind in the UK, will assist participating companies in finding and funding a mentor to guide them in the delivery of new skills, products and services (the upgrading of present services may be considered). It is hoped this development will in turn have an impact on the film and television sectors.
