ABS boosts capacity to 30 channels

Advanced Broadcast Services (ABS), the UK’s leader in the provision of low-cost, full-service playout, transmission and broadcast facilities, has increased its broadcast capacity by a further 15 channels with the opening of Unit 15, a new, state-of-the-art playout pod.
Situated adjacent to the company’s premises in West London, the new pod features Pharos System 7 Automation for playout control which together with ABS’s own remote playout capability gives users an ultra-high level of control over their playlist compilation and on-screen look.
ABS has set up dedicated terminals via internet links to give clients real-time, hands-on control and monitoring of all their output. This means content can be ingested remotely and transferred over the internet to the playout centre in London for final transmission.
Sass Jahani, Managing Director of ABS, commented: “We were taking bookings for Unit 15 well before it opened because of the excellent facilities. This new architecture is giving the channel full control of their content and playlist without the headache of managing a facility 24/7, so the international channels transmitting from our premises can manage their content remotely, from anywhere in the world, and they can sell commercials locally and get them to air within hours. This architecture is also ideal for interactive applications. We use Pinnacle’s latest MediaStream servers and full automation technology in an innovative configuration that allows us to achieve a lower cost structure without compromising reliability and flexibility.”
