Nominees for Irish film and TV awards unveiled
The Irish Film and Television Awards 2004, in association with eircom, has announced the six nominees for the Siemens mobile Television Personality of the Year Award – one of five awards that will be voted for by the general public.
The Siemens mobile Television Personality of the Year Award will see the nominees, as put forward by the six major television stations, compete to claim the title of Ireland's most loved and recognisable TV personality.
The Irish public will have the chance to vote for their favourite personality from the following: Gerry Anderson BBC NI; Jarlath Burns TG4; Claire Byrne TV3; Gerry Kelly UTV; Derek Mooney RTÉ One; and Grainne Seoige, Sky News Ireland.
RTÉ's Current Affairs Presenter Miriam O'Callaghan was the delighted recipient of this award last year. This year's winner will be announced at the awards ceremony, which takes place on October 30.
Siemens mobile is sponsoring the award for the first time and will be encouraging as many people as possible to get texting their votes.
Brian McMenamin, Business Unit Manager of Siemens mobile, hailed the awards ceremony as a "wonderful showcase for Irish as well as international talent".
He added: "Our sponsorship of the Television Personality of the Year category reflects Siemens mobile's commitment to excellence in communication. Each nominee has truly excelled in television and we wish them all the very best of luck."
Following on from the success of the Awards in 2003, this year's Awards ceremony promises to be a highly prestigious and glamorous event with a host of film stars, TV personalities, directors, producers and distinguished guests in attendance to celebrate the undisputed talent that exists within the Irish film and television industries.
The ceremony will be broadcast by RTÉ One on November 1.
