Vizrt graphics bring Dubai TV to air

Vizrt’s real-time 3D graphics system was chosen by Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) for the new look of Dubai TV, which went on air earlier this month from its brand new studio in Media City, Dubai.
A key feature of the installation was a customised integration between Vizrt’s Viz|Content Pilot template graphics software and Avid’s iNews ControlAir newsroom system, developed specifically for the network.
The new device manager, contained within Viz|Content Pilot, provides direct control of graphics playout from iNews ControlAir and bypasses the need for the MOS interface option within iNews.
“The speed with which we’re able to get complex graphics on-air is extremely efficient,” said Hassan Chahine, Dubai TV’s Technical Director. “Our graphic look is very fresh and highly stylized. We’re able to do that without a large graphics department, thanks to the system Vizrt created for us.”
Intending to minimise staffing and to optimise physical space, Dubai TV specified that MOS should not be the communication protocol, and the configuration should not require a Vizrt operator in the gallery. That request resulted in Vizrt’s creation of a direct device manager between its tools and Avid’s ControlAir. Previously, all communication between Viz|Content Pilot and iNews was through a separate interface designed specifically for iNews.
“This is a much faster and more efficient way of working,” said Berend Van Santen, Sales Manager, Viz center Norway. “Communication between all of the newsroom and automation products is now streamlined. With the direct interface between our products and Avid’s, it’s faster to load the playlist than using MOS.”
Salam Technical Services, based in Dubai, were the system integrators for the implementation of the Vizrt system at Dubai TV. “This direct interface allows Dubai TV to generate quick and complicated graphics on-air and to manage the entire graphics Content within the Pilot system.” said Manoj Bhatia, Director of Sales & Marketing, Salam Technical Services.
