New Found Land scheme brings more talent to the screen

Scottish Television, Grampian Television and Scottish Screen are to launch the fourth year of the award winning and highly successful production scheme New Found Land at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival.
This scheme commissions six half-hour television dramas, encouraging Scottish writing, directing and producing talent to explore the boundaries of digital filmmaking and story telling. The brief for New Found Land is not themed and filmmakers have been encouraged to be as ambitious and as innovative as their imagination and budget allows. This year’s line-up includes the return of Billy Boyd to Scottish film in a brilliant comedy from the director of television comedy hit ‘Still Game’; an astonishingly complex and disturbing vision of the future from new talent Craig Collinson, an electrifying comedy directed by actor Stephen McCole; a spiritual journey by an Indian beggar from BAFTA winning René Mohandas; a charming and gentle comedy from Barra; and a groundbreaking, animated a adaptation of an award-winning science-fiction story - Japanese anime meets cyber-Scotland.
Steve McIntyre, Chief Executive, Scottish Screen, said: “We are delighted with this new series New Found Land dramas, once again demonstrating the wealth of ideas and talent we have in Scotland. The quality of the productions is testament to the value of such a scheme and the benefit of working with major broadcasters such as Scottish TV and Grampian TV."
Agnes Wilkie, Executive Producer for Scottish Television and Grampian Television added: "We are really pleased that New Found Land has gone from strength to strength over the past four years and we’re delighted to continue working with Scottish Screen on such an innovative and successful initiative. We are hugely excited about this year’s films and think they offer an excellent mix of productions from some of the best talent in Scotland today."
This year’s dramas will be premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival from August 25 - 26 and will be broadcast in 2005.
