FREE TRAINING FROM BBC IN HEALTH AND SAFETY WEEK

THE BBC will be running a variety of free courses for anyone in the industry including staff, contractors and freelances, to mark European Health & Safety Week 2001.
Accident prevention is the theme of the week and from October 16 - 25, five different courses will take place at BBC regional centres across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The courses will focus on: the safe design and build of production sets; the safe simulation of potentially hazardous actions and effects on production; safe working with cameras and lights on productions; the safe management of productions; safety for news gathering at home and abroad.
The BBC initiative has been adopted by other broadcasters including Granada and aims to provide every opportunity for those in the broadcast industry to increase their knowledge and safety awareness. Key areas covered in all of the courses include risk assessment, responsibilities, control, co-ordination and communication.
Bob Forster, BBC Health and Safety Manager, said that European Health & Safety Week offered an ideal opportunity to demonstrate the BBC’s commitment to providing accessible training for all. (CD)
