BNU Opens Virtual Production Studio Designed By CJP Broadcast

Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) has opened its new virtual production studio, designed and integrated by CJP Broadcast.

The installation equips students with in-demand skills aligned with the evolving needs of the media and entertainment industries.

Central to the facility is a 6m x 3m high-resolution 1.9mm LED wall, supported by a suite of advanced production tools that deliver a professional-grade virtual production environment. The system includes a tracked cinema camera, dynamic image-based lighting, and real-time graphics rendering powered by CJP’s Callisto workstation. Together, these technologies provide a seamless and immersive workflow that mirrors modern film and broadcast studios, giving students access to the same techniques used in industry.

The facility is already in regular use, with film, TV, animation and visual effects students taking part in practical sessions just days after completion. Staff training, led by CJP's technical team at their in-house demonstration studio, ensured a smooth transition to the new setup, with a second phase of training planned later this year as the studio is adopted more widely across the curriculum.

"Our staff were able to begin teaching almost immediately, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive," said Russel Stone, Dean of College at BNU. "The studio is not only enhancing learning for film, TV, animation and visual effects students, but it’s also attracting growing interest from disciplines like engineering, advertising, and design. We see this facility becoming a major asset for interdisciplinary learning, skills development and employability."

The project was delivered on time and on budget, with CJP managing the full system integration and training. Stone continued: "From the outset, this has been an incredibly smooth and efficient project. CJP took care of every detail, from technical delivery to training, making what could have been a complex installation very straightforward. Their support has been exceptional throughout, and we’re confident this facility will be in constant use across the university."

Kieran Phillips, Director of Sales & Marketing at CJP Broadcast, added: "This project has been a great example of what’s possible when there’s a strong, collaborative relationship between the client and integrator. From the start, the team at BNU had a clear focus on delivering a facility that would give students meaningful, hands-on experience with industry-standard tools. Our role was to design a system that's not only technically advanced but also practical and accessible for day-to-day teaching."

This project demonstrates CJP Broadcast's commitment to delivering robust solutions on time and on budget. As the demand for virtual production skills continues to grow across the media and creative industries, installations like this are helping close the skills gap and prepare students for successful careers in film, broadcast, and creative technology.
