DNAV Launches A New Transmission Router

News Image
DNAV has launched a new transmission router from Sierra Automated Systems (SAS).

Now shipping, the 1RU SAS Transmission Router manages signal paths for up to 96 sources coming into and leaving RF facilities and central NOCs, providing broadcast engineers with a single control and monitoring point. Users can manually switch inbound and outbound feeds when problems are detected, or allow the product's built-in intelligence to automatically make real-time decisions to optimise performance of the broadcast infrastructure.

The SAS Transmission Router reimagines the "node" device that performs simple switching functions in RF and NOC environments as a smart device. An extension of the SAS Global Connect universal command and control system, the SAS Transmission Router is equipped with intelligent software for situational analysis of network and infrastructure performance. Its specific functions include automatic failover to redundant paths and backup systems, silence detection, and programming support. The unit's GUI allows the user to configure thresholds, such as length of allowable on-air silence; and to setup connections that improve communications over the network, such as tally detection and speaking with other transmission routers.

The unit's networking capacities make it equally at home as a local problem-solver and across larger multisite networks, with potentially hundreds of transmission routers in constant communication. The device's centralised dashboard offers a clear view of network and equipment status, which is especially useful for a NOC operator tasked with maintaining consistency and integrity of signal paths moving between sources and destinations. Common examples would be switching between primary and secondary IP STL paths, or switching to the backup transmitter. In severe situations, the SAS Transmission Router offers a direct and immediate path for disaster recovery should a broadcaster's main studios go dark.

DNAV and SAS will demonstrate the SAS Transmission Router at the NAB Show 2025 in the West Hall (W3249) of the Las Vegas Convention Centre. NAB Show 2025 takes place April 6-9.
